Solar Panel and Storage Systems for Homes That Can Produce Their Own Energy-01.07.2021

The need for alternative energy production and storage methods is increasing day by day due to reasons such as the understanding that fossil fuels will run out, the damage caused by current energy production methods to the environment, global warming, increasing energy needs with increasing population and foreign dependency in energy. Turkey has the potential to receive more solar energy than many countries that benefit more from solar energy. Many incentives are given to use this potential more effectively in daily life.

As final year Electrical-Electronics Engineering and Metallurgical Materials Engineering students, we designed an environmentally friendly alternative energy production and storage system that will benefit from the geographical advantages of our country in this study, which we carried out together with our consultants, based on current projects and developments. We calculated the energy needs of a family of four residing in Muğla and designed one off-grid and one hybrid system suitable for the solar potential of the region. Figure 1 shows the house used in the project.

As a result, we have realized an environmentally friendly project that can meet the needs of a house by storing the electrical energy produced from sunlight in batteries thanks to solar photovoltaic panels. Since the stored energy will differ depending on the variability of consumption and production values, we have developed solutions by examining possible problems and included them in our system design.
