Unit Goals
The goals of the Sustainable Green Campus Coordination Office for the 2026–2027 period have been established in alignment with the University’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, focusing on education and awareness, research and projects, societal contribution, and sustainable campus practices.
Our activities are carried out within the framework of the Plan–Do–Check–Act (PDCA) cycle, based on the principle of continuous improvement. Accordingly, goals and performance indicators are defined, activities are monitored and evaluated, and necessary improvements are planned based on the results achieved. Progress towards our goals is monitored through measurable performance indicators and shared with the public in line with the principles of transparency and accountability.
Education, Engagement and a Culture of Sustainability
We aim to monitor, report and enhance the visibility of courses and graduate programmes related to sustainability, the environment and climate change across the University. We place particular emphasis on improving our students’ knowledge and awareness of zero waste, carbon footprint, water literacy and energy conservation through practical training programmes and awareness campaigns.
Through the Campus Garden Ecological Agriculture and Practice Area, we aim to expand hands-on learning opportunities in climate change adaptation, green skills and ecological literacy, while encouraging active student participation in the conservation of local and heirloom seeds.
Research, Projects and Scientific Visibility
We aim to monitor and enhance the visibility of research activities, publications, theses and student projects conducted at our University within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
By promoting interdisciplinary research, Scientific Research Projects (BAP), and externally funded projects in the fields of sustainability and climate change, we seek to support the transformation of the University’s scientific knowledge and research capacity into sustainable solutions.
Societal Contribution and Collaboration
We attach importance to extending awareness of sustainability, climate change and environmental issues beyond the boundaries of the campus. To this end, we aim to develop joint social responsibility projects, training programmes and awareness-raising activities with external stakeholders, particularly local governments, public institutions and schools.
We seek to strengthen sustainability awareness among different segments of society, particularly children and young people, and to bring the University’s scientific knowledge and expertise together with the wider community.
Sustainable and Resilient Campus
We approach our campus as a living laboratory where sustainable solutions are developed, tested and implemented. We aim to work in collaboration with relevant academic and administrative units to advance bicycle-friendly mobility, water and energy efficiency, waste management and green infrastructure practices.
Taking into account the impacts of climate change on Muğla, particularly the increasing pressure on water resources, we place particular emphasis on developing and providing technical support for initiatives related to water conservation, the protection of alternative water resources, rainwater harvesting and green building transformation.
Through these goals, we aim to develop a resilient and sustainable university model that transforms scientific knowledge into practice, actively engages students and stakeholders in sustainability processes, measures its environmental performance, and continuously improves its practices in response to climate change.
