Seeds of Heritage for the Future: Strong Participation in Seed Distribution Event on World Environment Day

As part of World Environment Day celebrations on 5 June, a seed distribution event titled “Our Heirloom Seeds Entrusted to You” was organized in front of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences through the collaboration of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University’s Sustainable Green Campus Coordination Office, Sustainable Green Campus Student Community, and Campus Garden Community.
During the event, participants received both seeds produced with care in the Campus Garden and heirloom seeds generously donated by the Fethiye Local Seeds Association. In addition to seed distribution, visitors were informed about the importance of preserving local seeds, seed-saving practices, and sustainable agriculture principles.
The event attracted considerable interest from students, academic staff, and administrative personnel. Participants had the opportunity to explore different seed varieties and learn more about the sustainability initiatives being carried out across the university campus.
The activity contributed to raising awareness about the conservation of local biodiversity, the preservation of traditional agricultural heritage, and the promotion of environmentally responsible practices. Members of the Campus Garden Community also shared their experiences and introduced upcoming workshops, educational activities, and sustainability-focused projects.
Held on the occasion of World Environment Day, the event served as an important awareness-raising initiative, highlighting the value of sustainable living and the protection of local agricultural heritage for future generations.
