"Sustainable Living Day with the BALANCE Documentary" at MSKU.

Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University (MSKÜ) hosted a significant event in line with its sustainable green campus goals. The program, titled "Sustainable Living Day with the BALANCE Documentary," attracted considerable interest.

           


MSKÜ organized this important event to rethink the relationship between nature and humanity, strengthen awareness of sustainable living, make soil and production culture visible, and create a shared sustainability culture among university stakeholders.
The program, organized under the title "Sustainable Living Day with the BALANCE Documentary," offered participants a holistic sustainability experience through workshops, a documentary screening, and a panel discussion. The event took place in Hall B and the foyer of the MSKÜ AKM.

  
 
Workshops Attract High Participation
The workshops, which were followed with great interest by a wide audience ranging from students to academics, graduates to participants of the MSKU Refreshment University, took place between 12:00 and 15:00.
The Ceramics Workshop was led by Prof. Burcu Karabey, Lecturer Samet Aygün and Lecturer Nil Küçükerbaş. Participants experienced ceramic shaping techniques by producing various objects with clay. The produced works were sent to Bodrum Faculty of Fine Arts to be dried and fired.


  

The Seed Ball Workshop was conducted by Research Assistant Naz Fulya Çibik. Seed balls prepared with the participants were placed in the forested area of ​​MSKÜ (Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University). An heirloom seed exchange was also held with the participation of Ebru Oğuzhan Yeter and Nebahat Mert from the Fethiye Local Seeds Association..

  

The Origami Workshop was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Burçak Boz Yaman and students from the Origami Community. The basic principles of origami art and its relationship to mathematics were explained, while the use of recycled paper to promote environmental awareness was emphasized.

  

 
The Documentary "BALANCE" Screened at MSKU
In the second part of the program, the documentary "BALANCE," produced and directed by Nilgün Yanık Emiroğlu, met with the audience.
The documentary, with cinematography by Ramazan Emiroğlu, questions the historical transformation of the human-nature relationship, the weakening of the connection with the land, and ecological crises with expert opinions. The documentary offers an approach based on localization, collective solidarity, and ecological sensitivity.
 
"Balance for Sustainable Living" Panel Attracts Great Interest
Following the documentary screening, a panel was held, moderated by MSKU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hatice Hicret Görgülü.
The panel included Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Gündoğan (Philosophy), Prof. Dr. Aylin Çiğdem Köne (Economics), Nilgün Yanık Emiroğlu (Director), and Ramazan Emiroğlu (Cinematographer). The panel, which brought together different disciplines from academia to cinema, addressed the intellectual, ethical, economic, and cultural dimensions of sustainability. The panel continued with a question-and-answer session with the participants.
 
Student Societies Came Together for Sustainability
At the stands set up in the event area, the Sustainable Green Campus Coordination Society, the Campus Garden Society, and the Origami Society provided information on mathematical thinking, composting, recycling, zero-waste production, local seeds, agroecology, and nature-based solutions.
 
The Event Concluded with Certificates of Appreciation
The program concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the workshop leaders and panelists by Prof. Dr. Hatice Hicret Görgülü. “Sustainable Living Day with the BALANCE Documentary” provided participants with a rich sustainability experience at both practical and intellectual levels, contributing to the strengthening of a shared environmental awareness culture at the university.
